Launched in 2004, Jamaica Flux was created to build equity and to expand cultural inclusion throughout Southeast Queens. For the sixth iteration and 20th anniversary of Jamaica Flux in 2024, JCAL will build on this legacy by once again uniting artists, local residents, curators, scholars, and community stakeholders to harness and catalyze the transformative power of the arts.
Expect to experience the stories of six talented artists representing Queens and beyond. As you enter the halls of JPAC, you will be greeted by a special JFLUX pop-up exhibition, each artists showcasing a visual journey of their JFLUX public projects on location in close proximity to JCAL.
The exhibition consists of fragments of a sneaker sculpture, photography references to Queens fashion at the Colosseum Mall, video of personal accounts of living in Jamaica, Queens, aspirational photos of Queens youth, colorful Bengali cultural imagery, a visually creative hug of plants, culture and community, eco-drawings of reimagined local landmarks, sculpture dedicated to a Queens hip-hop legend, and the launch of a unique time-piece fashion show.
Experience the entry point to each project and hear from the artists themselves talk about their journey as fellows in JFLUX 2024.
