Archiving The Block: Cyanotype Workshop by Ryin Baskin
Archiving the Block is a workshop derived from a project, An Ode to the Block, included in the Jamaica Flux 2024 Exhibition. An Ode to the Block focuses on the change of culture, fashion, and physical landscape of the 165th Street Mall aka The Coli Block.
Using a photographic process, cyanotype printing, this workshop aims to preserve the remaining culture of the 165th Street Mall using small tangible items that have come from the block; fashion items, food wrappers, and images to name a few.Attendees will learn the process of cyanotype printing for purposes of archiving personal objects and materials.

The Crown & Glory Project by Sharon Miller
is a dynamic and ongoing photo series that celebrates underrepresented emerging young creatives within marginalized communities of New York City. Spearheaded by photographer, teaching artist, and founder of The Creative Youth Society, Sharon Miller, this project challenges creative youth across New York City to build DIY crowns using unconventional and found materials that represent their unique and artistic personal identities. In addition to being models, subjects of this project also act as photographers, creating photo portraits of each other wearing their handcrafted crowns that celebrate their individuality and self-expression as future creative leaders."
